Reviewed Aug 11th, by SloBlo. I've had a plathora of different amplifiers over the years, this is my third experience with Luxman and the only integrated amp from that company I have tried. I would say it's a really nice amp and I recognize the sound character from both Luxman 5m21 and Luxman C It's the only Luxman amplifier I've heard from the Alpine-years that I've liked.
Especially the phono stage is good, and sounds very close to the one found in the extreme Denon PRA preamp. It has a rich and full tone character with a good sense of depth and width, with a hint of warmth. Reviewed Jan 18th, by uchu. Reviewed Sep 18th, by 1JGP1. On first glance, it's a bit unassuming. The construction looks a bit weak on the outside, but - after a peek at the innards, you'll be pleasantly surprised at what you'll find.
The transformer is pretty beefy for a EI type unit, the capacitors at higher audio-grade nichicon and the heatsinks are well constructed, more than capable of dissipating heat as required. The design is unique, being a hybrid type unit.
It does have some typical bugs - the controls can get a bit oxidized based on age and are not the easiest to service darn tone-in switch! The heat generated from the tubes is the likely culprit for poor solder joints and a failing pre-heat switch. Aside from the quarks - the amplifier is well designed and has a robust power supply and sweet phono stage.
It's not your typical listen for hours Luxman It's still refined, but unlike most Lux products it has a more defined sound in the higher frequencies. It's not sharp or bright, it's just very dynamic and not as romantic as the typical Luxman can be. I actually have come to really appreciate it for what it is.
The amplifier is excellent at driving full-range speakers in a very natural state. No complaints at all. A certain recommendation for 80's gear. Reviewed Aug 08th, by vglory Update one hour after posting In the process of writing this message, I became more suspicious of the part numbers the service shop owner was giving me. He had already had the unit 7 months and had run out of excuses, probably. It is possible that he has made up the part numbers, because I compared the above numbers he said came from the unit with the service manuals from hifiengine.
No match I hope I am wrong. I'm not that technical but there's another conversation on audio karma that is a little old but has become active in the past few weeks. There may be someone there who can help. This website is not affiliated with or sponsored by Luxman.
